Wharfdale Wind Quintet
Founded in 1985 by students at the different London Music conservatoires the quintet gave their first performances as part of the Ilkley Music Course. An apt and fitting venue for an ensemble named after the dale.
The groups name however was inspired by G.A.Briggs, founder and maker of the Wharfedale speakers, who lived in Ilkley and was grandfather to two of the groups members Ruth Theobald - oboe and Felicity Theobald - bassoon.
They have given concerts throughout the country for music societies and festivals offering a diverse programme from classics of the wind quintet repertoire through to more adventurous works such as the Poulenc sextet with the international concert pianist John Briggs.
